Italy is always a popular choice for wedding destinations and for good reason. There are seaside towns, mountains, rolling hills, ancient towns, pristine lakes, excellent food and so much more. But after a while, certain locations begin to feel a bit… done. Where’s a girl to choose if she’s looking for a destination that hasn’t been all over her feed?

Here’s our list of Italian wedding destinations that aren’t as obvious are as their counterparts, will cost less and provide your guests with the same, if not more, authentic charm that Italy is known for.

1.

Instead of Capri, consider Ischia.

Both islands sit off the coast of Naples. However Ischia retains a bit more of a rugged and natural charm. Much larger than Capri, it consists of various charming villages to explore, thermal waters, lemon groves,  excellent restaurants and high low options for your stay. If you want to be even more original, consider the tiny fishing island town of Procida.

2.

Instead of Tuscany, consider Umbria

The food, wine and rolling hills of Tuscany make it an understandable choice for a beautiful wedding. But you can find similar traits in Umbria and have a less expensive wedding that still marvels.

3.

Instead of the Amalfi Coast, Consider Paestum
Outside of its beauty, the Amalfi Coast is favorable because the locations and vendors are used to foreign brides. The drawback is that they tend to nudge you toward a cookie cutter wedding. In Paestum,  you might not get the cliffs and sea views that you had in mind but you will get Ancient Greek temples, stunning light, equally delicious and abundant food, true authenticity and wedding vendors that will bend over backwards to give you the wedding of your dreams. Afterwards, your guests can take themselves to the Amalfi Coast (or Capri or Ischia) on their own dime since they’re all nearby.

4.

Instead of Puglia, consider Sardinia
Both are on the seaside and varied in options. Sardinia has the added benefit of having a hidden center which feels entirely different than the coast and therefore very special. Speaking of the coast, some of the most beautiful beaches in the world are on Sardinia. From sexy but pricey Porto Cervo in the North, to magical Cagliari in the south you’ll find a variety of high or low options for locations. Your guests will have the time of their lives exploring the island before or after your nuptials.

Honorable Mentions:

Langhe
Perfect for the food and wine loving bride who really wants to flaunt her knoweldge. Imagine if some of the  rolling hills of Tuscany were situated in the Piemonte region of Italy which is most renowned for food and wine.

Ponza

Ponza is where all the chic Roman’s summer. You get the water with much fewer foreign tourists than the other popular Italian seaside or lakeside locales. You also get distinct architecture and of course, fantastic food.
